Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Veterinary Clinical Director is responsible for providing leadership for the hospital, managing associate veterinarians and support staff as well as being responsible for creating an environment of teamwork in which quality medicine is delivered. In partnership with the Hospital Director, the Clinical Director is responsible for the financial performance of the hospital, preparing operating and capital budgets, and meeting budget expectations. The position can either involve clinical work or be purely non-clinical depending on the Director's focus and interests.

Advancing Medical Care

  • Oversees surgical and medical cases for all veterinarians, ensuring the best possible outcome, accurate estimates and charging, and excellent client communication and education.
  • Maintains and improves quality of medical and surgical procedures.
  • Establishment of medical protocols.
  • Recommendation of hospital inventory.
  • Manages and documents the associate veterinarians required hours of continuing education, credits per calendar year and CE completion.

Leading the Staff and Hospital

Qualification and Skills:

Dr. Ross is a registered veterinarian in Hong Kong and is a registered South African Veterinary Surgical Specialist. He is however not registered in Hong Kong as a specialist surgeon

Dr. Ross Elliott Graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2005. He then entered into a surgical residency at the Bryanston Veterinary Hospital through the University of Pretoria. He completed his residency in small animal surgery in 2011. During this time he completed a dissertation in the surgical CT anatomy of the canine abdomen, which produced 2 publications in Veterinary Surgery. Ross has been working as a specialist surgeon at the Bryanston Veterinary Hospital for the last 6 years as a specialist surgeon.

During this time he has produced multiple publications in international journals. These include an article on successful treatment of a double chambered right ventricle in a dog under cardiopulmonary bypass.

Ross's main surgical interest lies in total hip replacement surgery, cranial cruciate ligament surgery, elbow dysplasia and medial shoulder instability in canines, new ways to treat patella luxation in dogs, advanced spinal surgery (especially in large breed wobblers), urogenital surgery, and portosystemic shunt attenuation. Dr Ross is doing Total Hip Replacement surgery and is available for evaluation and assessment of patients for this as well as for the procedure itself.

In the last 6 years of referral work Ross has attended an advanced arthroscopic course in Munich, a complete course in linear and hybrid fixation using the Imex systems, a microvascular surgical course and a Biometric stifle and a BioMedtrix hip replacement course and is certified specialist in all these procedures.

Ross is happy to help with any surgical referral and prides himself on excellent patient care and compassion with feedback to the referring veterinarians.

During this time he has produced multiple publications in international journals. These include an article on successful treatment of a double chambered right ventricle in a dog under cardiopulmonary bypass.

Ross's main surgical interest lies in total hip replacement surgery, cranial cruciate ligament surgery, elbow dysplasia and medial shoulder instability in canines, new ways to treat patella luxation in dogs, advanced spinal surgery (especially in large breed wobblers), urogenital surgery, and portosystemic shunt attenuation. Dr Ross is doing Total Hip Replacement surgery and is available for evaluation and assessment of patients for this as well as for the procedure itself.

In the last 6 years of referral work Ross has attended an advanced arthroscopic course in Munich, a complete course in linear and hybrid fixation using the Imex systems, a microvascular surgical course and a Biometric stifle and a BioMedtrix hip replacement course and is certified specialist in all these procedures.

Ross is happy to help with any surgical referral and prides himself on excellent patient care and compassion with feedback to the referring veterinarians.

We wish to advise that Dr Cedric Tutt, a Veterinary Dentistry Specialist, will be available for dental consultations from Sunday 6th, Tuesday 8th to Thursday 10th and Sunday 13th October at Phoenix Animal Clinic, Wan Chai and Friday 11th and Saturday 12th October at Victory Animal Hospital, Mong Kok.

Consulting Veterinary Surgeon at Wanchai Animal Hospital

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Johan Nel, will be available for consultations and surgery procedures from 22 September until 10 October at Wanchai Animal Hospital, Wanchai.

Dr. Nel is a registered veterinarian in Hong Kong and is registered as a Veterinary Specialist Surgeon by the South African Veterinary Council. (He is not however currently registered in Hong Kong as a specialist surgeon)

Dr. Johan Nel graduated from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, South Africa in 1996. After qualifying he joined a mixed animal practise in Thabazimbi, on the Northern Borders of South Africa, where he did a lot of small animal medicine and surgery. He was also very involved with cattle herd health programs. In 2003-2004 he worked in Hong Kong for 14 months while furthering his studies in Wing Chun. In 2007 he sold his practise and started working at Fourways Veterinary Hospital and Specialist Referral centre as an emergency and after hour's veterinarian, while doing his Honours degree in Veterinary Surgery. In 2011 he entered into his surgical residency at Fourways Veterinary Hospital and Specialist Referral centre through the University of Pretoria and completed his Specialisation in Small Animals Veterinary Surgery in 2016. During this time he completed a dissertation the Biomechanical comparison between pins and polymethylmethacrylate and the SOP locking plate system to stabilize canine lumbosacral fracture-luxation and has published in publications in South African and international journals. Dr Nel has been working as a Veterinary Specialist Surgeon at Fourways Veterinary Hospital and Specialist Referral centre for the last 2 years and is a partner in the practise.

Johan's main surgical interest lies in orthopaedic surgery, external skeletal fixation, spinal surgery, cranial cruciate ligament surgery, urogenital surgery, and hepato-biliary surgery, but enjoys any surgical challenge.

Dr Nel believes in continued education and attended several courses in the UK, Europa and the USA on orthopaedic surgical procedures, arthroscopy, linear and hybrid external fixation (IMEX), placement of subcutaneous urethral bypass (SUB) etc.

Dr Nel is happy to help with any surgical referral and prides himself on excellent patient care and compassion with feedback to the referring veterinarians.
