Acute Kidney Injury is a devastating disease in both animals and humans that requires prompt diagnosis and treatment. There are numerous causes of acute injury and treatment varies from supportive care to interventions including surgery and hemodialysis. This talk will look at the pathophysiology of AKI in order to demonstrate the decision making processes in the treatment of this disease. It will also discuss hemodialysis and its role in the treatment of AKI.

Speaker's Biography

Dr. Joshua Steinhaus

Dr. Joshua Steinhaus is an American and European board-certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist. Following his internship and residency training, he did an intensive 1 year fellowship training program in Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy at the Animal Medical Center (New York NY). He is the only veterinarian in Asia to complete a fellowship in Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy. During his time at the Animal Medical Center he was trained by two of the founding veterinarians, Drs. Allyson Berent and Chick Weisse, in Interventional Techniques. In addition to this training he has also pursued further training in urology through the University of California-Davis and its Hemodialysis Academy.
