Speaker's Biography



Dr. Meera Surendran-Nair
DVM, MS, PhD, DACVM


Dr Meera was born and raised in the State of Kerala, India. She enamored with Clinical Microbiology and determined to specialize in unraveling infectious diagnostic riddles and to continue applying her research skills to offer new test solutions.

She graduated as DVM in 2012 from Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Wyanad (India), then completed her Masters in Clinical and Translational Research in 2016 at the University of Connecticut Health (USA), then completed a Master of Science and PhD in Animal Science in 2017 at the University of Connecticut, Storrs (USA) a Postdoctoral Scholar in Veterinary Population Medicine in 2019 at the University of Minnesota, Saint-Paul (USA); to complete her Residency in Veterinary Microbiology, in 2019-2021 at the Pennsylvania State University (USA), and become ACVM Board Certified specialist in Microbiology in 2021.

Today, Dr Meera lives in Pennsylvania, United States, and is Antech Director of Microbiology.

Before joining Antech, she was a faculty at Penn State Animal Diagnostic Laboratory since 2019 where she oversaw Bacteriology and Molecular Diagnostic Divisions. Dr Meera is known for being innovative in bringing new diagnostic solutions and collaborative in creating diagnostic ways to promote antimicrobial stewardship. She worked closely with animal owners, veterinarians, and infectious disease pathologists to develop, validate and deploy microbiologic/molecular diagnostic tests to meet their unmet animal health needs. She has over ten years of research experience in animal health and microbiology.
