  1. Feline chronic gingivostomatitis is one of those conditions and it can feel overwhelming for both the vet and the owner to manage. However, by following a stepwise approach, we can greatly improve these cats' quality of life. In this lecture, we will discuss how to differentiate feline chronic gingivostomatitis from other feline oral inflammatory conditions, as well as what we know about pathophysiology, treatment options and prognosis.
  2. Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome affects many dog and cat breeds and in severe cases can be life threatening. Stenotic nares, convoluted nasal passages, elongated and sometimes thickened soft palate, sagging of the caudodorsal nasopharynx roof, eversion of the laryngeal saccules and collapse of the trachea all need to be evaluated and where possible be attended to surgically. The use of CBCT and CT in the evaluation of some of these patients will be discussed as well as treatment options available.

Speakers Biography

Dr. Cedric LC Tutt
BSc(Agric), BVSc, BVSc(Hons), MMedVet(Med), Diplomate EVDC, MRCVS

Dr. Cedric is from a farming background, having grown up on a mixed enterprise farm near East London, in the Eastern Province of South Africa. As a youngster he participated in the treatment of livestock and pets and preferred to ride his old horse each afternoon rather than do school homework!

After spending 2 years in the military (a requirement at the time), he graduated with a BSc Agriculture degree and spent 2.5 years participating in research in aromatic plants; grown for their fragrance and flavour characteristics. During this time Cedric decided that he should revisit his first-choice career, and at the age of 29 was accepted to study veterinary science at Onderstepoort, the veterinary faculty at the University of Pretoria. Graduating at 35 years of age, he immediately entered a Clinical Assistant programme and obtained the BVSc(Hons) and the specialist degree in cattle medicine, MMedVet(Med). Thereafter he and his wife, Kim (also a veterinarian), moved to the UK for 7 years where Cedric specialized in veterinary dentistry and became a diplomate of the European Veterinary Dental College in 2007, and has served as President of the EVDC. He is currently a member of the EVDC Examination Committee. He has published numerous articles and presented presented dentistry and oral surgery lectures at congresses in Europe, China, Hong Kong, UK and South Africa.

Dr. Roxanne Emslie
BSc, BVSc, MSc, Diplomate EVDC

After qualifying from Onderstepoort in South Africa, Roxanne joined a predominantly equine referral practice. Here she gained some exposure to equine and small animal dentistry and realised this was a frequently overlooked aspect of veterinary science that can greatly impact an animal's quality of life. She went back to Onderstepoort to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, after which she moved to Cape Town to complete her residency with the European Veterinary Dental College, as well as her MSc in serval oral and dental pathology.

Roxanne is a European recognised specialist in dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. When not talking teeth, Roxanne enjoys all the outdoor adventures that Cape Town has to offer together with her husband, Kevin, as well as her horse, two dogs and two cats.

Hope to see you there.
