Chronic nasal congestion is a common issue in feline patients that can have a variety of underlying causes. This lecture will provide an overview of the rational diagnostic and treatment options for cats with chronic nasal congestion. We will discuss when further workup is warranted beyond the initial clinical evaluation, including when advanced imaging like CT scans may be indicated, and what role nasal biopsies and flushes can play in the diagnostic process. The pros and cons of testing that can be done at the general practice level versus requiring specialty referral will be explored.

Treatment options will be covered with an emphasis on balancing the benefits, risks, and costs of different approaches to develop a thoughtful, evidence-based plan for each patient. By the end of the lecture, attendees will have a better understanding of how to systematically evaluate and treat cats with chronic nasal congestion in their practice, knowing when to pursue further diagnostics or specialist consultation. Improved management of these challenging cases can lead to better outcomes and quality of life for our affected feline patients.
