Canine acute pancreatitis is a common disease seen in clinical practice. The clinical signs can range from none to severe and the condition could also be life-threatening. The diagnosis is very often challenging because it lacks a gold standard, and clinical presentation can be non-specific, or may overlap with many other common diseases.

This lecture will review the pathophysiology and diagnostic challenge of the disease. New updates on the diagnostic tools and disease management will be discussed.

Speaker Biography


Dr. Graham Swinney
BVSc FANZCVS (Canine Medicine)

Graham is a graduate of the University of Sydney in 1987. He undertook training in small animal medicine at Massey University in New Zealand and the University of Queensland. He has since worked at the University of Sydney (during which time he attained specialist qualification - Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Canine Medicine) and Washington State University doing clinical work and teaching students, and at the Veterinary Specialist Centre in Sydney, and back to the University of Sydney for a period of time. More recently he has worked at IDEXX Laboratories as an Internal Medicine Consultant and Medical Affairs Veterinarian.
